Welcome to my SSRS blog!

Hello!

Welcome to my SSRS (and sometimes other subjects) blog.

I have been working with Microsoft Reporting Services since mid 2003, and the SQL Server 2005 BI tools since mid 2005.
I am constantly coming up with work-arounds, and never think to share that knowledge.

Well, here is my attempt.
I hope someone out there benefits from this blog. And remember, if you have a question, do not hesitate to ask it!

Thanks!

I hope this site is still being watched. I'm having an annoying problem with forms authentication in SSRS.I've set up the Forms Authentication sample available from Microsoft. The logon pages appear fine, I can register users in the database and log on to the Report server. However, when I try logon to the Report Manager (UILogon.aspx) I recieve the following error:
An error occurred while attempting to get the ReportServer Url. The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)

I'm at a loss here.
thanks

Hello! Yes, even though I have not been posting regularly due to other committments, I am watching the blog.

Have you posted your question on the MSDN Forums?

I have not run into that problem on SSRS, however, I am not using forms authentication either.

Hope that helps!

Hi Bob,

thanks for the response.
Yes, I have posted on MSDN and...NO REPLIES YET aaarrrgh! I've searched and ggogled and... but I've had no luck. What I have discovered though is that if I use Internet Explorer to browse to the ReportServer, login to the server ( using forms auth which works on the server) then go the report manager URL in another tab of the explorer voila! the Report Manager folder.aspx page opens without directing me to the UILogon.aspx for forms auth. This is atrange considering that the error I'm recieving suggests that the reportserver cannot be seen from the report manager url?

Any other suggestions would be soooo appreciated.(sorry for the long-windedness but i'm boggled)

Cheers

Hi Bob,

I have a strange occurrence when using a filter in the Report Builder ad-hoc component of SSRS 2005 I’m hoping you may be able to explain. - If I filter a particular table field (TruckNumber) as a straight filter (meaning no prompt) and select a number from the auto-generated dropdown, I get an empty result set. However, if I change the filter to a prompted filter and select the same number from that auto generated dropdown, I get my result set. As I have not found anyway to view the actual SQL query statement, as you can in other reporting tools, I cannot see if somehow the selection is being passed as an incorrect data type, although this is my suspicion. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Carla
